What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a non-invasive, holistic Japanese therapy, merging Western anatomy and physiology knowledge with ancient Oriental medical philosophy. Shiatsu translates as 'finger pressure' and the essence of Shiatsu is simply communication through touch.
Oriental medicine aims to maximise and balance the body's 'life force' or energy (referred to as Qi or Chi). Qi flows through our bodies in channels known as meridians and defines our state of wellbeing - anything adversely affecting the flow of Qi will affect the body, mind, soul or spirit (separate entities in Chinese Medicine theory).

Shiatsu stimulates the body's natural healing ability by addressing Qi flow imbalances. In order to connect with and influence Qi flow, Shiatsu utilises methods such as pressure, stretching, movement, minor manipulations and muscle energy techniques. By relaxing the nervous system, improving circulation, and correcting the structural imbalance of the body, homeostasis is restored physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Through sensitive external touch, internal energetic changes occur, which can have a profound effect on the body, re-harmonising and energising the whole system.
